About Us

Welcome to Black Therapists Abroad

I’m Xolani Anahisi, founder of Black Therapists Abroad (BTA). I’m a psychotherapist, psychotherapeutic coach, and mother—originally from the UK and now living in Mexico.

Over the years, as I traveled, worked, and connected with other Black therapists around the world, I kept noticing something:
we were out here, but rarely in one place together.

Some of us were building online practices. Some were transitioning between countries or licenses. Some were doing this work in new cultural landscapes where supervision and peer support weren’t always easy to find. And although we were navigating different paths, there was a shared need for connection—professional, cultural, and personal.

That’s where the idea for Black Therapists Abroad came from.
A desire to gather the brilliance that was already out there and bring it into one curated, intentional space.

BTA is designed to support therapists like you—Black women, living and working across borders, doing powerful work that doesn’t always fit neatly into the systems we left behind. It’s a space to stay connected, sharpen your practice, explore new directions, and be in community with others who truly get it.

We understand the shifting nature of life abroad—how easy it is to feel uprooted. That’s why BTA offers continuity, connection, and care as you grow your work and your life on your own terms.

Whether you’re running a thriving online practice, exploring your next step, or simply looking for colleagues who see you—you’re welcome here.

This is a space built for us, by one of us.
And I’m so glad you’ve found it.
